Chronic Fatigue & Low Blood Pressure

Even after I have switched to a more positive outlook in life, I still felt extremely tired after 6pm in the evening, especially during work days. This has precluded me from the option of studying part-time for night classes.

I sometimes wonder with some envy, how some of my colleagues (and classmates) manage to have the energy to get so many things done in life. The most notable example of a peak performer was a young female colleague who works 2 hours overtime everyday, attends night classes and still have time to date. She resigned for a much higher paying job after she got her university degree and her new husband.

Until I started to delve into biomedical treatment for autism, I did not realize that I have a problem, and that I might be able to use nutrition to solve it. My mother was a firm believer that I was simply too “lazy”. Since she gets by with less than 6 hours of sleep a day while I need 10 hours, it must be my own issues. She would nag at me whenever I complained that I was too tired.

The breakthrough came when I visited the doctor one day for a blood test. The male nurse casually mentioned that my blood pressure was rather low. I remembered noticing this a few years ago, but did not give it a second thought after the doctor reassured me that it was fine. However, this time, I made a connection between my constant tiredness and low blood pressure.

I went home and searched on the Internet. It turns out that my hunch was correct, and the cheapest way to raise blood pressure was by taking salt. I took out my family’s blood pressure monitor and took some baseline measurements. The normal blood pressure was 120/80, but I had reading of around 90/60.  I poured out a few grams of coarse salt and drank it down with water. I could feel my heart beating harder a few hours later as my blood pressure went up to 127/78.

My sister was amazed the next evening when I returned home. She told me that I no longer looked completely drained of life. It seems that the experiment worked, and my blood pressure was a more normal looking 115/70. I took a gram of salt daily and continued to measure my blood pressure closely.

After 3 weeks, I completely stopped taking additional salt. My blood pressure remained stable and I have had much more energy in my daily life. However, the problem was not completely solved until I tried vitamin B12.

Note: Please consult with a qualified medical professional before trying what I have described. Salt/Sodium overdose can cause serious injury to the body.
