Chronic Fatigue & Vitamin B12

Although I managed to restore my blood pressure to normal using by taking extra salt, I still experience sporadic tiredness throughout the day especially around afternoon time.  Now believing that I have a biomedical problem, I continued to search for new options.

A friend suggested that I try taking a blend of amino acids. That did lifted my energy levels a little bit, but far from what I was looking for. I knew that I must find other options.

The breakthrough came when I met a Malaysian parent who has a child with autism. She told me that she tried the vitamin B12 that she was giving her child just to see what happens. Lo and behold, she felt much more energized for the entire day. I started researching once I got home. The fact that many people on the Internet also reported an increase in energy after trying Vitamin B12 made me eager to get started on it immediately.

Interestingly, most supplements use a form of vitamin B12 called cyanocobalamin, which does not exist in nature but is much cheaper to produce. However, DAN doctors typically recommend the methylcobalamin form of vitamin B12 for treating autism due to its superior bio-availability, which can help bypass some of the absorption difficulties of people with autism.

Since most of the biomedical problems I experienced in my childhood should have cleared up by now, I should be able to use the cheaper cyanocobalamin version. I took a 500 mcg tablet, thinking that since it is the lowest does available, I should not have any problem with it. Big mistake! I was so energized that I could not sleep until 5am the next morning!

I did more reading and discovered that cyanocobalamin can cause insomnia for some people, whereas methylcobalamin does not. Since I did not want to waste my purchase, I cut the tablet in half. 250 mcg worked perfectly for me. Now I feel 10 years younger and have started my old pastime of reading books again.

Note: I was taking a multivitamin for over a year before and also during my experiment with vitamin B12. Readers are advised to supplement themselves with a high potency multivitamin or at least a B-complex supplement since these other nutrients have a synergistic effect with vitamin B12.
