Sleep Reduction with Omega 3 Essential Fatty Acids

Ever since I achieved success with my supplement research, I started testing different supplements extensively in the hopes of improving my life. I was especially keen to reduce my sleep time, as I felt that it was taking up an excessively huge amount of my precious time.

I was taking the GNC multi-oil supplement, which did not have much effect. Things changed when I ordered 6 bottles of discounted DHA 240, one of the Omega 3 essential fatty acids, from Life Extensions. I popped a pill a day, in addition to what I was already taking. I did not expect any result except for a potential improvement in my memory skills.

After a week, I realised that I needed less sleep. I usually stayed up late at night to finish up work and took a lunch nap at work to recuperate. I can now skip the lunch break and still feel fine. I also have much lesser sleep debt, measured by the extra time I slept when I did not have to wake up to go to work. I used to sleep for 12 hours on my first weekend holiday to clear my sleep debt. Now I just sleep for 2 extra hours.

After taking salt to restore my blood pressure to a normal level and taking vitamin B12, I have sought to reduce my sleep but without much success. I was delighted to find another solution and started experimented with the dosage. I eventually settled on a target dose of 550mg of DHA daily.

The sleep reduction effect may not be unusual considering that DHA forms at least half the mass of our brain cell. Our brain cells require fats to provide insulation for the brain’s electrical signals, and having sufficient insulation will ensure efficient functioning of the brain.

DHA is very difficult for our body to manufacture from other omega 3 fatty acids, and hard to obtain from most foods. The best sources of DHA are cold water oily fish, such as salmon, herring, mackerel, anchovies, and sardines. Fish have been traditionally considered good for the brain but I avoid eating them as they may be contaminated with mercury. When buying any supplements made from fish, I always ensure that the manufacturer states that there are no detectable PCBs or heavy metals in their products.

EPA, another omega 3 essential fatty acid, may also be helpful for me. Once again, I have ordered some discounted fish oil from life Extensions and will be adding more EPA to my supplement regime. Let’s see what happens.
